jr magazine update

Just wanted to let everyone know what an AWESOME job the Jr.'s did with the magazine sales.  They beat their goal of $20,000 and sold magazines worth $20,224!!!  Of which our share is 40% which equals $8089.60 plus an extra $1447 in donations to the class.  Our total is now $9,536.60 of which we will have $7036.60 to spend all this Jr. year on Homecoming, Class Day and of course Prom.  I am so, soo, SOOO proud of the hard work that went in to this years sales drive, you all (including parents) did an amazing job!

This week in Jr. history, we are working on ch 7, its a long chapter and should have the test in a week or so, I'll let you know.

Seniors their test on chptr 16 is on Thursday.  it is short and should be easy.

magazine update

Hello Jr's and Jr parents,
magazine sales have begun and so far its a little slow.  I completely understand that everyone is busy (Iam too!)  but this is the only fund raiser the juniors are allowed so we really have to try our absolute best. The end of the sales drive is Sept 5th which will be here very soon, so try to do everything you can to help out-it truly takes all of us together.
The Jr's will have their first test this week on thursday over Chapter 6-its a big chapter so study hard.
The Sr's will also have their first test this week on wednesday over Chapter 1.
I finally have my grades posted on Edline, we've had problems. At the end of the 9wks I always drop the lowest daily grade so just keep that in mind.
Have a great week!

welcome back juniors and seniors

Welcome back juniors and seniors, I hope that everybody had a great summer! For my classes all that I require is a spiral notebook or 3ring binder and will allow students to use either a pen or pencil.

For the junior class, I will once again be the sponsor along with Missy Ramage and we are planning to have a busy year starting very soon.  Magazine sales should be within the next few weeks so look for your jr. to bring home information and start making contacts so that we can hit the ground running!  The junior class is responsible for several things: Homecoming reception, Class Day reception and of course Prom.  We need to raise as much money as possible through magazine sales since it is our only fundraiser.  We can do it but it will take all of us working together!      Have a great weekend-Beth Murphree

I wanted to say thanks again to all of the juniors for the hard work they put into the prom.  I have never had a class work so well together and get through the decorating process so quickly.  I am impressed with their dedication and excitement for what can seem to be an overwhelming event.  Big, big, BIG thanks to Kori's dad for his masterpiece- WOW is all I can say!  One person can not do what we did Friday night and you all deserve a huge pat on the back-  I am so proud of all of you and I love you, each and every one!!!!  Mrs. Murphree

9th grade DC trip

Hello everyone, well the time is finally here to pack our bags and hop on the bus to DC!  One last thing I need from everyone is a copy of their insurance information.  Of course, if parents are going, just be sure to have your insurance card with you (along with your driver's lisc.); however, if your child is going without you, we do need a copy of your insurance information, just in case. Please have it in to the office by Wednesday so that we can file everyone's information and carry it with us on the trip. HOPEFULLY, we will not need it but we want to be extra careful.  Don't forget to be at the school at 5:00am on Sunday and we will leave PLAS by 5:30 sharp---don't oversleep, we've got a long ride ahead of us and we need to leave on time.  See you then, Beth Murphree

DC trip checklist

9th graders,
Here is a list of some items you made need to carry or would like to consider to bring with you to DC.
First of all, there is only 1 suitcase allowed per person ( if you have a rolling bag it will help you  since we all have to carry our own bag)
WHAT TO WEAR (the average temperature for February is a hi of 48 and a lo of 32)
1.  Jeans are ok except for the day that we go to the capitol.  On that day, plan to wear khaki's or dress pants.  Its just to cold for dresses and skirts.
2.  Think layers.  Long johns, warm socks, hats, scarves, gloves, etc...We will be outside a lot during the day and night but it may also be a lot warmer inside, so layers would be good.  Remember, winter in DC is not winter in Troy!
3.  We will be walking a lot so wear comfortable shoes.  Most people wear boots with rubber soles.  The sidewalks may be icy or wet with snow and shoes without rubber soles may be slick.
4.  Warm coats.  Just a North Face type jacket may not be enough.

WHAT CAN YOU BRING
1.  On the bus, you can bring:
      a.  A backpack or small bag for your phones, ipods, cameras, etc... Remember to put your name on all
your electronics so they do not get lost while you pass them around with your friends.
      b.  A blanket and/or pillow if you'd like.  We'll be riding for a long time and you'll most likely take a nap.
you can also dress comfortably for the bus ride, but don't look like a bum (no pj's there is still a dress
          code!)
      c.  Drinks and snacks.  We will try to have a large cooler under the bus for everyone to put a couple of
drinks(put your name on them) that you can get to when we stop.  Please do not bring cans, some
thing with a top so they do not spill on the bus.  Snacks are ok as long as they do not crumble like
chips (you do not want to sit in crumbs all week)
2.  Money.  You will be allowed $10 for lunch (prepaid) and a little more at dinner.  Prices in DC are a little higher than here.  Older students have said you may want to take a little more just in case to eat on.  Also we will be able to buy souvenirs so don't forget to bring money for that if you want something.  Approx $150 is what others from the past have said would be a fair amount, more or less is up to you.
3. Medicine.  If you take medicine, bring it in a baggie with your name on it.  You also may want to include items for headaches, cough, bandaids, etc...

We do need to have everyone's insurance information and parents contact number just in case.

The hotel is the Hampton Inn Largo in Largo, MD.  You can see pictures of the hotel online.

We will need to be at the school Feb 19 (Sunday) at 5:00 am and will be leaving at 5:30 sharp so don't be late!!!

DC Trip meeting

On Thursday (1/12/12)  at 5:30 we will meet at the school in the old library to go over details for the DC trip in February.  The final payment will be due on the 10th but you can also pay your balance at the meeting, this is mainly for the adults and according how you choose to room with others.  Parents that will be going with us are asked to please be in attendance, MrSikes will be at the meeting to go over school guidelines for the trip.  It is not necessary for the students to be at the meeting but very important for the parents that will be going.  Thanks and see you then,  B Murphree
